It’s a bright sunny day in Hyrule, and Link is riding Epona through Hyrule field. His destination comes into view as he passes Kakariko Gorge. He sees the towering structure of Hyrule Castle, as well as Hyrule Castle Town below it. He stops before the bridge, and dismounts Epona. Epona runs off, heading back towards Ordon village. Link has come to Hyrule Castle to assist in the training of the newest recruits of Hylian Soldiers. Link walks forward, stepping onto the bridge, the wooden planks creaking slightly as he walks across them. After a few steps, Link’s thoughts are interrupted by a loud voice.
“HEEEEEEEY” He hears, and Link puts his hand to his face out of annoyance. He looks up, and sees a man running towards him at high speeds. The man is wearing a very small pair of white shorts, a white shirt with a wooden pole strapped to his back by a harness, and a red hat with a bunny’s head in the center. The pole has a banner attached to it that reads “Hyrule Postal Service”
“I have a letter for you.” The man says and hands him a letter in a white envelope that simply reads “Link” “Well, my business is concluded! Onward to mail!” the postman says with a salute, and he turns around and runs back into the town.
Link looks at the letter, puzzled as to who has sent him this letter. Link turns the envelope over, and sees that it is sealed with wax. Stamped into the wax is a strange symbol. The symbol is a circle, and it has two lines going through the circle, starting at the lower left. One line goes directly up, while the other line moves across the circle from left to right. Link studies the symbol, unsure as to what it means. He breaks open the seal, and pulls out the letter.
“Greetings hero. You have been invited to a fighting tournament. This tournament is designed to test your skills. Many other skilled fighters from all over the universe will be invited, but only one of you will be crowned victor. The grand prize of this tournament is to remain a secret, but it is an item that is highly sought after. If you accept this invitation, we will provide transportation.” Link sees something at the bottom of the letter. Written in small print, it says “We are not responsible for any injuries received while taking part in this tournament.”
Link puts the letter back in the envelope, puts the envelope in his pouch, and starts walking forward into the town. “I’d better talk to Zelda about this. It’s ultimately her decision as to whether or not I can attend.” Link thinks. Link walks through Hyrule Castle Town, and moves around all the people moving about. Link walks towards the gates to Hyrule Castle, and walks through them when the guards open the gates for him. Link enters through the main doors, and begins the long walk up to the throne room. “I should get Zelda to install one of those elevators the Gorons use to get to the hot springs. It would make this trip a lot easier.” Link says as he walks up the numerous flights of stairs. Finally reaching the top, Link enters through the open doors of the throne room. Zelda is sitting down on her throne, and reading a letter, the envelope sitting on the armrest to her left.
“Zelda I need to talk with you about.” Link starts to say, before she interrupts him.
“Not now, Link. I’m trying to figure out what this letter means.” Zelda says, not looking up from the letter.
“You mean the invitation to the fighting tournament?” Link asks, walking closer to Zelda.
Zelda looks up at him. “How did you know that?” She asks, a look of confusion on her face.
Link reaches into his pouch, and pulls out the envelope that he got from the mailman, handing her the invitation.
Zelda looks over the invitation, and then looks up at Link. “What do you think about this Link?” Zelda asks.
“I would like to attend. I could learn a thing or two about fighting from this tournament.” Link says.
“That sounds like a good idea. I’m curious about this tournament as well. And it would be nice to have the champion of Hyrule become well known.” Zelda says.
“So it’s settled then. We’re both going to this tournament then. But how do we get there?” Link asks. Immediately after Link says this, a portal opens up in the center of the room. Link and Zelda both look at it. Through the portal, Link can see a large green field, as well as a massive mansion. “I guess this is our way there.” Zelda says. “Shall we?” Zelda asks Link. Link nods, and they both walk towards the portal, and enter through it.
Link and Zelda step out of the portal, and are now standing in the green field, the massive mansion standing tall in front of them. Link looks around, and sees no signs of anyone else nearby. “We must be the first ones here. We might as well check out this mansion.” Link says, walking forward. Zelda follows Link, but the both stop when they hear a loud noise coming from the sky. Link and Zelda both look up, and see a large orange object flying through the air. It lands thirty feet away from them, small flames flying out from several points on this object. A platform drops down from the object, and an orange figure resembling a person walks out. The figure is around six feet tall, and has on a helmet with a green visor. Where this figure’s right arm should be, a strange cylindrical looking object with a hole on the end is in its place. The figure turns and starts walking towards Link and Zelda. Link grabs the hilt of his sword, and is ready to pull it out at the slightest sign that this figure is going to attack.
